SCOPE OF THE COURSE
The Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) is an International Labor Organization convention, established in 2006 as the fourth pillar of international maritime law and embodies “all up-to-date standards of existing international maritime labor Conventions and Recommendations”. The other “pillars” are the SOLAS, STCW, and MARPOL. The Convention applies to all merchant ships of 500 GT and above regardless of the flag they fly.
The Webinar introduces the attendees to the regulatory regime and requirements of the MLC 2006, as well as its practical implementation across the shipping industry.
Special attention is given to the inspection and compliance procedures of the convention, and their importance for shipping companies globally.

Mr. Constantinos E. Avtzigiannis has graduated from the University of Macedonia and has completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Wales (Postgraduate Diploma in Port & Shipping Administration) and at the University of Manchester (M.Sc in International Business Management). He posses numerous professional certifications from Classification Societies (Bureau Veritas, DNV – GL, LRS, NKK), USCG, and the University of Portsmouth. He has worked in Operations and Quality / Safety Departments of ship management companies and from early 1994 he is an independent consultant in Safety / Quality / Security Management in shipping and land industries, working also as DPA/CSO/MLC Manager in ship management companies. He is Management Systems Lead Auditor (non-exclusive) for BUREAU VERITAS CERTIFICATION since 2009 and previously has worked also for DNV in the same capacity. Amongst his other professional undertakings is lecturing in shipping studies colleges. In the past, articles of his, covering issues related to maritime history, safety & environmental protection, and maritime security have been published in professional magazines.CERTIFICATION
