SCOPE OF THE COURSE
The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is an amendment to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, on minimum security arrangements for ships, ports, and government agencies. It prescribes responsibilities to governments, shipping companies, shipboard personnel, and port/facility personnel to “detect security threats and take appropriate preventive measures.
This module provides attendees with technical training and knowledge for a very sensitive and important topic in the shipping industry. Security regulations and implementation of ISPS requirements onboard ships and ports globally is a major issue and of increasing importance for the shipping industry. ISPS internal auditors are employed in a variety of positions both in shipping companies and in port authorities globally, in specialized Auditor positions.

INSTRUCTOR
Mr. Constantinos E. Avtzigiannis has graduated from the University of Macedonia and has completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Wales (Postgraduate Diploma in Port & Shipping Administration) and at the University of Manchester (M.Sc in International Business Management). He posses numerous professional certifications from Classification Societies (Bureau Veritas, DNV – GL, LRS, NKK), USCG, and the University of Portsmouth. He has worked in Operations and Quality / Safety Departments of ship management companies and from early 1994 he is an independent consultant in Safety / Quality / Security Management in shipping and land industries, working also as DPA/CSO/MLC Manager in ship management companies. He is Management Systems Lead Auditor (non-exclusive) for BUREAU VERITAS CERTIFICATION since 2009 and previously has worked also for DNV in the same capacity. Amongst his other professional undertakings is lecturing in shipping studies colleges. In the past, articles of his, covering issues related to maritime history, safety & environmental protection, and maritime security have been published in professional magazines.CERTIFICATION
