Cyberspace is a complex environment consisting of interactions between people, software, and services, supported by worldwide distribution of information and communication technology (ICT) devices and networks. Owing to the numerous benefits brought about by technological advancements, the cyberspace today is a common tool used by citizens, businesses, critical information infrastructure, military and governments in a manner that makes it difficult to draw clear boundaries among these different groups. The cyberspace is expected to be more complex in the foreseeable future, with many fold increase in networks and devices connected to it.

SCOPE OF THE COURSE

The webinar aims to provide attendees with understanding & awareness of key aspects of cybersecurity in relation to the maritime industry both ashore and on-board and to help them understand the commercial risks for shipping companies. It also aims to help attendees to follow a risk-based approach, when dealing with cybersecurity issues and to appreciate the value of business continuity planning.

INSTRUCTOR

Mr. Demetrios Paliatsos is a former Hellenic Navy Vice Admiral served at all hierarchy grades and duties in several Ships and Hellenic Navy Commands. In the last few years, he has served as a Training Manager in QMS Maritime Training Center. He is a Monterey Postgraduate University Bd/Md holder in Systems Engineering.  He is also a qualified Navigation Assessor, by the Naval Institute of England.  He has served as a Security Branch Director for NATO Installations and Harbors.
